Students will identify sources of pollution and how they get into the river. A large pickle jar is used to represent the river, and students will discuss what pollutes the river. Prevention of water pollution is discussed to include: picking up after pets, recycling, reusing, using less of these potential pollutants such as fertilizers, pesticides, fossil fuels, and the importance of green space to help naturally filter some of these pollutants.
